Colgate Beats Boston University, 132-111, in Women’s Swimming and Diving

(10/28/06) – Sophomores Lisa Marchi (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Beverly Walker (Marietta, Ga.) both won two events and contributed to a winning relay as the Colgate women’s swimming and diving team defeated Boston University, 132-111, on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Lineberry Natatorium. The win was the first for the Raiders (2-1) against the Terriers (1-1) in 10 tries.

Marchi’s wins came in the 100 and 200 free, where her times were 52.83 and 1:53.87. Her time in the 200 free ranks eighth all-time at Colgate. Walker was victorious in the 50 free, with a time of 24.56, and the 200 back, where her time was 2:08.10. The duo was joined by classmate Emily Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y.) and freshman Kate Murphy (Williamsburg, Va.) in winning the 400 medley relay to open the meet with a time of 4:01.11. Their time places them ninth on the Colgate top-10 list.

Emily Murphy earned a win in the 200 IM, touching the pad in 2:09.24, and finished second in the 200 breast, posting the 10th-best time in school history with a 2:24.01.

Kate Murphy earned her first win in the 200 fly, posting a time of 2:10.18, and finished second in the 500 free with a time of 5:16.80.

Freshman Karen Baker (Houston, Texas) came in second in the 1000 free, finishing in 10:57.82.

Colgate’s two 400 free relays were second and third with a times of 3:37.57 and 3:38.37, respectively.

On the boards, freshman Heather Friedman (Wayland, Mass.) posted a personal-best with a score of 156.45 in the one-meter competition to come in fifth. Senior Sara Dyer (Milton, Mass.) earned a career-high 175.73 points in the three-meter event to finish fourth. Senior Gretchen Swarr (Southport, Conn.) was Colgate’s top finisher in both events, coming in third.

The Raiders open Patriot League competition on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Navy. The teams will also compete against Lehigh in a three-way dual meet. The action begins at 2:00 p.m.
