Men's Rowing Wins Collegiate Four at the Head of the Charles

The Raiders won the collegiate four with an 11-second lead over the second-place team.
BOSTON (10/23/06) – Colgate University men’s rowing competed in the prestigious Head of the Charles this weekend in Boston and for the second year won the collegiate four.

The Raiders won the collegiate four, finishing 11 seconds ahead of second-place Rochester Institute of Technology with a time of 18:12.470.  In the winning boat were Brenna O’Rourke (cox), Kurt Miller (stroke), Matt Rogowski (3-seat), Doug Herling (2-seat), Tom Leonard (bow).

The collegiate eight race had some bumpy parts as one boat sank, creating havoc for other boats, and Colgate had some trouble at a bridge underpass as multiple boats were trying to squeeze through at the same time.  The Raiders finished 50th in the event.

The team has cancelled its plans to compete at the Head of the Schuylkill this weekend.  Instead, the novices will race in the Head of the Fish in Saratoga Springs on Saturday, Oct. 28, in the novice 4+ event.
