Columbia Shuts Out Colgate, 3-0, in Field Hockey

, N.Y. (10/22/06) – The Colgate field hockey team lost its final road game of the season, 3-0, to Columbia on Sunday, Oct. 22. The Raiders return to Hamilton with a 2-12 overall record, while the Lions improve to 7-8.

Colgate outshot Columbia 8-6 in the first half but was unable to find the back of the cage. The Lions broke the scoreless tie 17:42 into the second half. Christine Buszczak passed from the right side of the net to Jane Gartland, who beat Raider senior goalkeeper Jacque DeMarco (Hudson, Ohio) to put Columbia up 1-0.
 
Exactly 10 minutes later, Jacqui Munro set up Ramie Merrill for her sixth goal of the year to give the Lions a 2-0 lead. At the 67:07 mark, Laura Cosan passed to Megan Davidson off a penalty corner and Davidson scored off a fake to finish the game’s scoring.

Columbia outshot Colgate 17-6 in the second half to finish the game with a 23-14 shot margin. Each goalkeeper finished with seven saves, and Columbia had seven penalty corners to Colgate’s six.

The Raiders return to Tyler’s Field for their final weekend of action, Oct. 28-29. On Saturday, Colgate hosts Lehigh on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., then plays Cornell on Sunday starting at 1:00 p.m.
