Women's Cross Country Posts Five Personal Bests at Albany Invite

The Raiders took third of 11 Division I teams at the 40th Annual Albany Invitational.

ALBANY, N.Y. (10/14/2006)—The Colgate University women’s cross country team posted five personal bests to place sixth overall and third among Division I schools at the 40th annual University of Albany Invitational. Senior Liz Crowley (West Simsbury, Conn.) led the Raiders, taking 17th of 150 runners with a personal-best 5k time of 18:30.
 
Colgate finished with five runners in the top-35 to finish the afternoon with 159 points for sixth place overall. University of Guelph won the event with a low score of 63 points.
 
Crowley shaved 53 seconds off of her previous best 5k time this season to lead the Colgate harriers. Senior Hannah Failing (Deerfield, N.Y.) was next across the line for the Raiders, hitting the tape in 18:37 for 23th place overall.
 
Each of the next three Colgate runners posted personal records to round out the scoring group. Senior Meaghan McAnaney (Syracuse, N.Y.) timed in at 18:49 to take 32nd in the field. Sophomores Kristen Kiraly (Huntington, N.Y.) and Jessica Kielty (Depew, N.Y.) each cut over 50 seconds from their previous best career times. Kiraly clocked in with a personal best 19:02 for 41st place, while Kielty crossed the line in 19:05 for 46th.
 
Also running for the Raiders in the varsity race were junior Kathryn Marvel (Williamsburg, Mass.) and freshman Emily Oliver (Annapolis, Md.). Marvel registered a time of 19:19, and Oliver ran a personal best 19:43.
 
The Raiders will rest for a week as they prepare for the Patriot League Championship on Oct. 28. Colgate will host the competition with the women’s race beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Harry Lang Cross Country Course.
