Cappuccio Stops PK in Colgate's 0-0 Tie with American

Cappuccio stopped a penalty kick in the 71st minute as Colgate tied American 0-0
 
HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/14/06) – Colgate University sophomore goalkeeper David Cappuccio (Pittsford, N.Y.) stopped a penalty kick by Garth Juckem at 70:41 as the Raiders tied American, 0-0 in overtime on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Van Doren Field.
 
With a foul called on Colgate in the box after a corner kick had been taken, the referee signaled for a penalty kick.  With the crowd on their feet Juckem sent a low shot towards the net, Cappuccio dove to the right and punched the ball with both hands back out into the field.
 
Cappuccio extended his shutout streak to 835:55 which dates back to last season.  He is now fifth in the NCAA records book in all-time consecutive shutout minutes.
 
American’s Chris Sedlak made nine saves in the first tie between the two squads, as the all-time series favors the Eagles, 6-0-1.
 
The Raiders had a 14-11 advantage in shots during regulation, but the Eagles had the upper hand in the overtime sessions with five shots to Colgate’s one.  American also had the edge in corner kicks, leading 0-2.
 
It was a physical battle with 31 fouls being called and four yellow cards, three of which were assigned to the Eagles.
 
Colgate is now 6-1-5 overall and 2-0-3 in the Patriot League, while American is 4-8-3 overall and 1-1-2 in the league.
 
The Raiders host regional foe Cornell on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.  The game will be webcast live on Colgate All-Access.
