LEWISBURG, Pa. (10/14/06) –
Colgate came back from an early 2-0 deficit to tie Bucknell 2-2, but was unable to keep pace as the Raider field hockey team lost to the Bison, 4-2, on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Graham Field.

Bucknell converted two penalty corners into goals early in the game, with Amanda Faust setting up Trina Boyer each time. The Bison went up 1-0 just 2:25 into the contest, and earned the two-goal lead at the 11:54 mark.

Less than 2:30 later, the Raiders got on the board when sophomore Laura Flisnik (Marcy, N.Y.) netted her second goal of the year to make it a 2-1 game. With less than 10 minutes to play in the first half, junior tri-captain Natali Plesniarski (Hamilton, N.Y.) tied the score at two-all.

Bucknell killed Colgate’s offensive momentum, however, with a penalty-corner goal with three seconds left before halftime. Faust got her third assist of the day as she set up Megan Krebs to give the Bison a 3-2 edge.

The final goal of the game was scored five minutes into the second half. Faust completed a five-point day with a goal that was set up by Steph Graf and Alex Kyzmir off a penalty corner.

Raider senior goalkeeper Jacque DeMarco (Hudson, Ohio) finished the game with seven saves, while Bison goalie Emily Groendyke earned the win with five stops. Colgate was outshot 10-4 in the first half, but each team got five shots in the second half to make it a 15-9 shot differential in the Bison’s favor on the day. Bucknell was awarded 12 penalty corners to Colgate’s eight, including a 7-2 difference for BU in the first half.

Colgate continues Patriot League play next weekend at Lafayette. The Raiders and Leopards square off on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 11:00 a.m. Colgate continues its road swing at Columbia on Sunday, Oct. 22, for a 1:00 p.m., game.
