Boxscore

HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/7/06) - Nationally-ranked Harvard powered past Colgate on Saturday, Jan. 7 at Starr Rink in ECACHL action, winning a 5-1 contest. Freshman Jenny Brine scored twice for Harvard and teammate Jennifer Raimondi added three points, while Colgate’s lone goal came from freshman Kiira Dosdall (Fairfield, Conn.).

Raimondi opened the scoring at 13:50 of the first period when she intercepted the puck at the Colgate blue line in front of the Colgate bench. She skated in on the net and sent a low shot to the opposite of the net behind Colgate goaltender Brook Wheeler (Brussels, Ont.).

With the teams down in the Harvard zone, Colgate was called for a penalty but did not get a chance to touch up before Crimson goalie Ali Boe skated to the team bench to add an extra attacker. Raimondi took the puck from Laura Brady from behind the net and sent the puck out front to Brine. Brine, all alone in front of the net, went over Wheeler’s blocker to give Harvard the 2-0 lead at 4:15 of the second.

With a Crimson player in the box, Colgate’s power-play unit capitalized at 7:52 to cut the lead to 2-1. Allison Paiano (Orleans, Ont.) sent a pass to Elin Brown (Calgary, Alta.) who got tied up on the far left boards but managed to break free and set up Dosdall who skated in from the top of the circle in on Boe and went stick side.

Harvard added a man-advantage goal of its own at 1:48 of the third period. Brine added her second tally of the game with help from Sarah Wilson and Raimondi, giving Harvard the two-goal cushion.

Minutes later, Jennifer Sifers added Harvard’s fourth goal. Liza Solley took a draw low in the zone and batted the puck backwards. The puck deflected off a skate to Sifers who was able to keep control and wristed a shot to the back of the net at 2:31.

The Crimson finished its offensive attack at 5:37, with their second power-play goal. Wheeler went down to stop a puck in front of a scuffle but it was Brine who captured the puck. She brought the puck back around the net to the left side and passed to Lindsey Weaver who was able to hit the back of the net before Wheeler could maintain her position.

Wheeler finished the night with 34 saves, while Boe stopped 22.

Harvard improves to 9-5-2 and 6-2-2 in the ECACHL, while Colgate falls to 4-2-1 in the league and 7-7-3 overall.

The Raiders return to Starr Rink tomorrow afternoon, Jan. 8, when they host Dartmouth College at 2 p.m. The Big Green defeated the Big Red of Cornell, 4-3 earlier this afternoon at Lynah Rink.
