Colgate Loses to Brown in Field Hockey, 4-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (10/2/05) - The Colgate University field hockey team lost 4-0 to Brown on Sunday, Oct. 2, in Providence. The Raiders (5-6) have lost their last five games, while the Bears improve to 4-4 on the season.

Samantha Lloyd put Brown on the board with a goal at the 16:09 mark. Brooke Townsend added the assist. Sara Eaton made it 2-0 when she scored off a pass from Kristen Vincent 20:06 into the game. Lloyd scored again just 1:16 later off a penalty corner. Brown capitalized on another penalty corner in the second half, as Townsend scored from Laura Kavazanjian and Lloyd 51:12 into the game.

Colgate junior goalkeeper Jacque DeMarco (Hudson, Ohio) made seven saves before she was relieved by senior Carolyn Daly (Newark Valley, N.Y.), who made one save in relief. Kristen Hodavance made five stops for Brown to secure the shutout.

Brown outshot Colgate 26-11, including an 18-5 advantage in the first half. The Bears were awarded seven penalty corners to the Raiders’ three.

Colgate returns home to take on Syracuse on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 7:00 p.m. The game will be played on Tyler’s Field, and admission is free.
