Harvard Rolls Over Colgate 80-62 In Women's Basketball

CAMBRIDGE, MA. (1/2/06) - Harvard University used an 18-0 run that spanned over eight minutes in the first half to down Colgate University 80-62 in non-conference women’s basketball action this evening at Lavietes Pavilion. Colgate senior guard Meghan Curtin (Bronx, N.Y.) led all scorers with a career-high matching 18 points and a team-high five boards.

 

Trailing by six points, 17-11, in the early going, the Raider could not find the bottom of the net, going on a scoring drought over the next eight minutes. Curtin ended the stretch with 4:12 left in the half with a layup, but the Crimson could not miss as it headed into the locker room up 42-20.

 

The Raiders (2-10) shot just 26.7 percent (8-of-30) from the floor, including a meager 8.3 percent (1-of-12) from long range, while the Crimson were on fire, making 61.3 (19-of-31) percent of their shots in the half.

 

Harvard (4-9) opened the second stanza with a 9-5 run to take its biggest lead of the game at 53-25. Colgate pulled to within 17 late in the half, but could not overcome its big first-half deficit.

 

Junior Carly Brescacin (Tecumseh, Ontario) turned in a strong performance with a career-high 12 points and three rebounds, while senior Devon Warwick (Amesbury, Mass.) had eight points. The Raiders shot 40 percent for the game, including just 25 percent from behind the arc.

 

Emily Tay led all Crimson players with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Laura Robinson and Katie Rollins both contributed 10 points. Harvard shot 52.2 percent for the game to earn its second straight victory.

 

The Raiders return to action on Jan. 7, at Army at 3 p.m.
