HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/17/06) - Senior Marc Falkner (Basking Ridge, N.J.) won three events, but it was not enough as the Colgate men’s swimming and diving team lost to Bucknell, 200.5-94.5, on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Lineberry Natatorium.
Falkner tied Bucknell’s William Schilling for the victory in the 100 breast with a time of 59.88. He won the 200 breast outright, beating Schilling by 0.19 seconds with a time of 2:08.93. Falkner also won the 200 IM in 1:57.59.
Freshman Stephen Haskin (Potomac, Md.) recorded a personal-best score of 246.15 in the one-meter diving competition to claim second place. He finished third on the three-meter board with 242.10 points.
The Raiders finished second in the 200 medley relay. Senior Levi Benson (Allegany, N.Y.), Falkner, sophomore Zach Whitman (Pittsford, N.Y.), and junior Zach Grobengieser (Spencerport, N.Y.) turned in a time of 1:37.44.
Whitman placed second in the 200 fly, touching the pad in 1:58.67, and was the runner-up in the 100 fly with a time of 52.43. He earned second-place points in the 200 IM after he finished in 2:02.26.
Grobengieser came in third in the 100 free with a time of 49.41, and senior James Silas (Bayside, N.Y.) was right behind him, posting a time of 49.95.
In the final race of the meet, the Raiders took first-place points in the 400 free relay as freshman George Bennitt (West Chester, Pa.), Silas, sophomore Jeff Jakob (Medford, N.J.) and freshman Dan Lathrop (Westerly, R.I.) turned in a time of 3:20.47.
Colgate closes out the home portion of its schedule this weekend when it hosts Lafayette on Friday at 2:00 p.m., and Cornell on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
