American Too Much for Raider Volleyball

The Eagles stretch their Patriot League win streak to 66 with 3-0 victory over Colgate.

WASHINGTON (09/24/2005) - Five American University volleyball players hit over .400, led by Cutrina Biddulph's (Reseda, Calif./Granada Hills) 15 kills and .684 hitting percentage, dropping Colgate University 3-0 in a Patriot League matchup Saturday at Bender Arena. The Eagles (8-7, 2-0 PL) stretched their Patriot League win streak to 66 matches with a 30-20, 30-11, 30-15 victory over the Raiders.

Colgate jumped all over American, 9-3, early in the first game, but three straight serves each by Jennifer Cosco and Rubena Sukaj tightened things up. The Eagles’ defense took over after that, forcing Colgate into 10 attacking errors for the game.

The Raiders were once again led by freshman Katrina Zawojski (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) with 10 kills, while senior setter Allie Nichols (Sacramento, Calif./Sacramento) contributed a team-high 19 assists. Rookie libero Jackie Adlam (Marin, Calif./Marin Academy) and Zawojski both registered a team-best eight digs.

AU's Elizabeth Maloney registered a double-double, hitting .583 with 14 kills on 24 attempts and no errors and a team-high 11 digs. Cosco nabbed 10 digs, while Chelsa Brooks, Carly Barisich and Christina Nash each hit over .400. Nash added 30 assists.

The Eagles’ defense was outstanding, compiling 13 total blocks and holding Colgate to a .011 hitting percentage.

Colgate (1-14, 0-2 PL) returns to the friendly confines of Cotterell Court on Sept. 30, hosting Holy Cross at 7 p.m.
