ITHACA, N.Y. (09/10/05) – The Colgate University men’s soccer team played to a 1-1 overtime tie against Cornell (0-2-1) on Saturday night in Ithaca, N.Y.
Kuda Waketa got Cornell on the scoreboard first, when he took a header off a Tom Marks corner kick, that snuck by Colgate’s keeper Doug Litvack (Levittown, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) at 41:31.
Colgate’s Devin Deane (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) evened the scoring at 56:23, after Kevin Toomey (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) sent him a pass from midfield. Deane rifled a shot that went to the back of the net.
The two teams played another 20 minutes of soccer, with Cornell taking three shots and Colgate one, but neither team could sneak one past the goal line.
Litvack made five saves in net for the Raiders, while Cornell’s Steve Lesser also made five stops.
The Colgate (1-0-2) men’s soccer team, ranked No. 7 in the region, will play its first home game on Wednesday, September 14 at 7 p.m., under the lights of Van Doren Field against the University of Albany.
