HAMILTON, N.Y. – Stan Moore has stepped down as associate head coach of the Colgate men’s hockey team to accept a position at Providence College.

An 11-year veteran of the Colgate hockey program, Moore joins the staff of Tim Army at Providence. Army was recently named head coach of the Friars after three seasons as head coach of the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League.

Moore and Army are hooking up for a second time at Providence, where both served as assistant coaches in the early ‘90s.

“I have enjoyed 11 wonderful years at Colgate,” Moore said. “While I am excited about the opportunity to work with head coach Tim Army, I will greatly miss my affiliation with Colgate and the Hamilton community. I wish head coach Don Vaughan, his staff and the players the very best as they continue to elevate Raider hockey to greater national prominence.”

“Stan Moore has been an important part of Colgate hockey for 11 years, Vaughan said. “During much of that time he has been primarily responsible for recruiting some of Colgate’s finest student-athletes. He is an excellent teacher of the game whose focus is always on the overall development of the player. On behalf of Colgate hockey, players and coaches, both past and present, I thank him for his dedication to the program and wish him continued success at Providence.”

Moore had two stints on the Colgate coaching staff. Between 1992 and 1996 he was an assistant coach for the Raiders, before leaving for two years as head coach at Union College. He returned to the Hamilton campus in 1998 as an assistant coach before being promoted to associate head coach for the final four seasons.

During the 2003-04 campaign, Moore served as interim head coach, while Vaughan was acting athletics director at Colgate. Moore guided the Raiders to their second Eastern College Athletic Conference Hockey League (ECACHL) regular season title with a 22-15-5 record and was honored as the ECACHL Coach of the Year for a second time in his career. He became the first rookie head coach to be named ECACHL Coach of the Year during his first year at Union College in 1996-97.

Since his coaching career began in 1979, Moore has served as an assistant coach at Brown, Brockport, Potsdam, Providence and Colgate.
