Colgate Volleyball Team Inks Adlam, Gault and Rivers

The Raiders have now signed four who will join the program in 2005.

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Colgate head volleyball coach Jenna Panatier has announced the addition of three more players to her incoming class of 2005. Jackie Adlam (Marin, Calif.), Christy Gault (Lincolnshire, Ill.) and Elizabeth Rivers (Pickens, S.C.) join Katrina Zawojski (Palo Alto, Calif.), who will all begin competing for the Raiders next season.

Adlam is a 5-6 libero and setter who led Marin Academy to the California Division 5 State Championship in 2004. Early in the season, Adlam replaced an injured teammate as her squad's starting setter, and led Marin to a 24-3 record en route to being named to the state all-tournament team and the all-league first team. She was also honored by the Marin Independent Journal as the prep player of the week. Adlam is currently a member of the San Francisco Volleyball Club.

"Jackie is extremely athletic and very versatile," Panatier said. "She is an unselfish player with the ability to run our defense next season. Jackie understands the commitment and drive it takes to win championships. She only knows one speed - all out, all the time."

Gault is a 5-9 outside hitter out of Adlai E. Stevenson High School. In 2004, she led her team to the Lake County, NSC and IHSA Lake Division, and regional championships, and was named to the All-Lake County, All-NSC and all-area teams. Gault was also named to the IHSA All-Tournament Team in 2003 and 2004, and is a scholar-athlete at her school. She is currently a member of the Sky High Volleyball Club.

"Christie has the ability to be both a power player as well as a finesse player," Panatier said. "She's a great defender who reads the ball well, and at the net finds a way to put the ball down. She is a solid player who adds depth and intensity to every team she plays for."

Rivers is a 5-1 defensive specialist and setter who helped lead Pickens High School to the 2002 and 2004 South Carolina Class 3A State Championships. In 2004, she was an honorable mention selection to the PrepVolleyball.com South Carolina Dream Team after serving as her team's co-captain. Rivers was named to the 2003 South Carolina All-Region 1-AAA Team as a setter, and to the 2003 Byrnes Invitational All-Tournament Team. She played for the Clemson Foothills Volleyball Club for the last four years. Rivers is currently working as a volunteer coach at the Pickens Recreation Department, coaching fifth, sixth and seventh graders, and is playing in an adult league

“Elizabeth has the personality and the skills that will help in binding her class together,” Panatier said. “Whether it's diving to the floor, making the perfect pass, or setting to her teammates, Elizabeth is willing to do whatever it takes for her team. She is a team player in every sense of the word.”

The Raiders finished the 2004 season with a 5-19 overall record and a 2-12 mark in the Patriot League.
