Raiders Turn in Strong Performance in Loss to No. 24 Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.—Senior guard Meghan Curtin (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 16 second-half points in a 73-54 loss to No. 24 Boston College at the Silvio Conte Forum. The Raiders outscored the Eagles 37-32 in the second half, but could not overcome the 24-point first-half deficit.

Boston College (12-2) jumped out to a 24-4 lead in the opening 10 minutes behind Kindyll Dorsey’s 10 points. The Eagles added two more baskets to make it 28-4 at the 8:43 mark before Colgate went on a 9-4 run sparked by freshman Gretchen Polinski’s (Mansfield, Ohio) five points to cut the lead to 17, 32-15, with 4:39 left in the stanza. Boston College responded with a 9-2 streak of its own to take a 41-17 lead into the locker room.

Colgate (2-9) shot 21.2 percent (7-of-33) in the opening 20 minutes, while the Eagles knocked down 54.8 percent (17-of-31) of their shots from the floor. Boston College outrebounded the Raiders 26-16 for the half. Senior forward Devon Warwick (Amesbury, Mass.) led all Raiders with six points at the break, while the Eagles’ Dorsey led all scorers with 10.

The Raiders came out in the second half firing on all cylinders. The Eagles opened the half with a 16-7 run to gain their biggest lead of the game at 59-24. Colgate held strong over the next five minutes and used an 18-7 streak in the closing seven minutes to cut the lead to 19, the fewest since the two minute mark in the first half.

Curtin sparked the run with three consecutive three pointers in a span of just over three minutes. The senior guard went 4-of-6 from long range in the second half to lead the Raiders’ second-half charge. Senior guard Megan Ballard (Atlanta, Ga.) added seven second-half points to finish the game with 11. Warwick and Polinski added eight points apiece, while Warwick led the way on the glass with nine boards.

The Raiders shot 31. 6 percent for the game (18-of-57) and held Boston College to just 46.0 percent, seven percent under its season average.

Colgate returns to action on Jan. 2, traveling to Harvard for a 7 p.m., meeting with the Crimson.
