Men's Basketball Rolls Over Hobart 72-47

HAMILTON, N.Y. (12/17/05) - Jon Simon and Kyle Roemer scored 10 points apiece to lead Colgate to a 72-47 non-conference win over Hobart Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at Cotterell Court.
 
Colgate (5-5) snapped a two-game losing streak with its 19th straight win over the Statesmen (2-5). The Raiders have won three straight home games and are 4-1 at home this season.
 
All 12 Colgate players finished in the scoring column, as the Raiders made a season-high 11 3-pointers. Alvin Reed added nine points for Colgate, while Kendall Chones and Marc Daniels added eight apiece.
 
Hobart was led by Joe Virgilio with 11 points and John Grazioli with 10.
 
Colgate held an early 3-2 lead, before scoring 15 straight points to take control of the contest. The Raiders had four different players hit from behind the arc in the 15-point run. Their biggest lead in the first half was 24 points, 32-8, with 5:31 remaining. They led at halftime, 41-25.
 
In the second half the closest Hobart would come was 14 points, 43-29, with 15:59 remaining.
 
The Raiders shot 48 percent from the field, while the smaller Statesmen managed only 36 percent. Colgate shot 42 percent from 3-point range making 11-of-26 attempts.
 
Hobart out-rebounded Colgate, 31-30, led by three players with four rebounds apiece. Colgate’s also had three players with four rebounds each – Roemer, Kendall Chones and Reed.
 
The Raiders will travel to Harvard on Tuesday night, before breaking for the Christmas holiday.
