Men's Soccer Defeats Holy Cross, 1-0

Boxscore

WORCESTER, Mass. (11/5/05) – Junior forward Devin Deane (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) scored the lone goal late in the contest to give the Raiders a 1-0 victory over Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon.

Deane headed a Charlie Lambropoulos (Lincolnwood, N.Y./Niles West) ball into the back of the net off of an indirect kick from the left corner at the 80:47 mark for the game-winning goal.

Holy Cross had a 10-4 shot advantage, but the Crusaders could only put three on goal, all of which were turned away by Colgate’s Doug Litvack (Levittown, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran). Holy Cross keeper Richard Whipple made one save.

The Raiders are now 9-6-3 overall and 4-3 in the conference, while the Crusaders finish their season 8-8 overall with a 2-5 mark in the league.

The win gives Colgate hopes of making it into the 2005 Patriot League Tournament, and will now wait for tonight’s Lehigh/Lafayette and Bucknell/Holy Cross contests to see if they can do just that. Colgate needs Bucknell to lose or tie to Navy or have Lafayette and Lehigh tie in order to make it in as the No. 4 seed.
