Cornell Defeats Colgate 69-56 To Snap Four-Game Skid Against The Raiders

Kyle Roemer was Colgate's leading scorer with 20 points against Cornell, including four 3-pointers.

ITHACA, NY (11/22/05) – Freshman guard Andrew Gore tallied 16 points to lead Cornell to a 69-56 win over Colgate Tuesday night at Newman Arena.
 
The Big Red (2-2) snapped a four-game losing streak against Colgate (2-2), and won on their home floor for the first time in eight outings against the Raiders.
 
Andrew Naeve had 14 points and nine rebounds and Jason Hartford added 13 points and six rebounds to the Big Red attack.
 
Sophomore guard Kyle Roemer was Colgate’s leading scorer with 20 points, while sophomore Kyle Chones tallied his first career double-double with a career-high 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jon Simon added 12 points for the Raiders.
 
After Colgate scored the first three points, Cornell came back to take a 5-3 lead on five points by Hartford. The Raiders tied the game on a basket by Jon Foss, before the Big Red outscored Colgate 11-4 for a seven-point lead with 12 minutes remaining.
 
Cornell increased its lead to 12 points, 22-13, with 7:58 left, but the Raiders managed to cut the deficit in half on five straight points by Roemer. The Big Red stayed in control for the remainder of the first half to lead 34-25 at halftime.
 
In the second half, Cornell increased its advantage over the Raiders to 20 points, before Colgate managed to cut the deficit in half with just over one minute remaining.
 
Colgate shot 43 percent from the field, while Cornell scored at a 52 percent clip. The Raiders out-rebounded the Big Red, 30-28. Kyle Chones was the leading rebounder for Colgate with his career-high 10 while Foss and Peter Minchella had four apiece.
 
Colgate played without the services of injured sophomore Kendall Chones, who is the Raiders’ second leading scorer (15.0 ppg) and leading rebounder (4.7 rpg).
 
Colgate will be back in action on Saturday, when they play host to the University of New Hampshire at 1 p.m. at Cotterell Court.
