WASHINGTON, D.C. (11/11/05) - The 2005 Patriot League Rookie of the Year Phil Purdy tallied the game-winning goal for American to give the Eagles a 1-0 victory over Colgate in the Patriot League Men's Soccer Tournament semifinals.
Purdy collected a Garth Juckem pass 30 yards out and sent a low hard shot toward the net that snuck past Colgate keeper Doug Litvack (Levittown, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) to the far left corner before he could react.
The Raiders outshot the Eagles 17-16 but could not capitalize on their nine shots on net, as American’s Chris Sedlak saved all nine to preserve the win. Litvack made five stops for Colgate.
Colgate finishes its season with a 9-7-3 record, earning its first trip to the Patriot League Tournament in six years.
The defending league champion, American, advances to the championship game on Sunday, November 13, taking on the winner of the Lehigh vs. Lafayette semifinal contest.
