HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/1/05) Sophomore Eric Anton (Tacoma, Wash./Charles Wright Academy) scored two goals to lead the Colgate University men’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Oneonta on Tuesday evening at Van Doren Field. It was the Raiders’ final regular-season home game of the 2005 season.
Devin Deane (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) dribbled down the middle of the field right through two defenders and slipped a pass to Anton. Anton tucked the ball in behind Oneonta’s Timothy Melia and continued his run towards the goal and released a shot that went uncontested to the back of the net at 18:36.
Senior Derek Johnson (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) forced a turnover at the top of the box and sent a cross to Anton. Anton picked up the ball and arched a shot the upper left corner from 24 yards out. It was Johnson’s first collegiate assist.
With just 00:01.2 remaining, Chris Joy sent a shot towards Doug Litvack that was deflected to the foot of Keith Manscuk who sent it home at the six-yard marker.
Colgate held the slight advantage in shots 15-12, and had four corner kicks to Oneonta’s three. Melia stopped eight shots for Oneonta in the loss, while Doug Litvack (Levittown, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) turned away four for Colgate.
The Raiders improves to 8-6-3, while the Red Dragons fall to 6-9-2.
Colgate will conclude its regular-season schedule when the Raiders travel to Holy Cross on Saturday, November 5 for a critical Patriot League contest at 1 p.m.
