Boxscore

ITHACA, N.Y. (10/4/05) - The Colgate University women’s soccer team defeated Cornell University, 3-1 on Tuesday evening on Berman Field.

It was the Big Red’s third straight defeat and the Raiders' third straight victory, as Colgate inches closer to Cornell in the all-time series, 11-13-3. The Raiders, No. 8 in the region, are now 7-3-1 on the season while the No. 12-ranked Big Red fall to 6-3.

Cornell got on the board first at the 21:45 when senior Kara Ishikawa scored her fifth marker of the year when she blasted a shot from 18 yards out past Colgate senior goalkeeper Luisa Miller (Washington, D.C./National Cathedral). The Big Red would maintain the lead for the next 53 minutes before the Colgate offense found its momentum.

Sophomore Franny Iacuzzi (Evanston, Ill./Evaston) scored the equalizer at 74:36 when she beat Cornell’s freshman keeper Taylor Hendren for her seventh tally of the season.

The Raiders continued to pressure and just over 12 minutes later, freshman Brittney Putnam (Olympia, Wash./Olympia) picked up a loose ball in a scramble in front of the net after a corner kick and knocked it home to put Colgate up 2-0.

Just 1:56 later, junior defender Jackie Burch (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) sealed the victory when she picked the ball off a Big Red player and ran in the opposite direction surprising Hendren in net who let it slip past her.

The Big Red outshot the Raiders, 19-15, but it was the Raiders that had an unbelievable 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Miller made a season-high 11 stops in net for the Raiders in her sixth victory of the season. Cornell’s Hendren turned away five.

The Raiders return to Van Doren Field on Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m., when they take on Lehigh in a battle of the top two teams in the Patriot League.
