Boxscore

HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/29/05) - Wayne State’s Lindsay DiPietro tallied two goals and one assist to lead the Warriors to a 4-0 shutout over the Raiders on Saturday afternoon at Starr Rink.

The past five years the two teams have split the series which has taken place in the early portion of the season. The last four seasons Colgate has won the first game, while Wayne State picked up the second. Sticking with tradition, that occurred again this weekend, as the Raiders took a 3-2 game last evening and the Warriors answered back with a 4-0 win today.

Wayne State opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 15:57. The Warriors held the puck in the Colgate zone passing it around the back of the net when Melissa Boal found Lindsay DiPietro right on the doorstep in between two Colgate defenders. DiPietro poked the puck through the five hole past Brooke Wheeler (Brussels, Ont.) for the goal to light up the scoreboard in the Warriors favor. Laura Monk was credited with the second assist.

Early in the second stanza, Wayne State capitalized on a three-on-two break as Jessica Snelgrove brought the puck up the center and snuck it in to the left side where Sam Poyton was wide open and hit the back of the net from point-blank range at 1:57 to give the Warriors to the 2-0 lead.

Wayne State made it 3-0 with their second man-advantage goal at 7:23 of the second when Danielle Wilson sent a pass to Melissa Boal behind the net. Boal collected the puck and skated in on the net to set up DiPietro who was waiting just outside the crease. DiPietro connected with Boal and snuck the puck past Wheeler on the stick side.

DiPietro put the game away for Wayne State at 13:54 of the second stanza when she picked up a loose puck off a turnover right in front of the Raider goal and flipped it into the net past the surprised Wheeler.

Wheeler was taken out of the game at 13:54 of the second after turning away 12 saves. She was replaced with freshman Elayna Hamashuk (Nepeon, Ont.), making her first collegiate appearance in net for the Raiders. Hamashuk went the distance the remainder of the game, holding the Warriors scoreless and making seven saves.

Valery Turcotte earned her first win and first shutout of the season, as she stopped 22 shots for Wayne State.

Wayne State held the slight advantage in shots at 23-22 and converted on 2-of-5 power plays, while the Raiders went 0-for-2.
