BETHLEHEM, Pa. (10/29/2005)—Lehigh University junior John O’Reilly scored a pair of second half goals to lead the Mountain Hawks to an important 2-1 victory over Colgate University in Patriot League men’s soccer action on Saturday evening at the Ulrich Sports Complex.

Lehigh remains unbeaten on its home field with a 6-0 record and improves to 10-3-1 overall and 4-2 in league action. The Raiders fall to 7-6-3 on the year and 3-3 against Patriot League foes.

Colgate opened the scoring in the 30th minute when sophomore Eric Anton (Tacoma, Wash./Charles Wright Academy) headed Charlie Lambropoulos’ (Lincolnwood, Ill./Niles West) free kick over Lehigh keeper Charlie Sales’ head. Colgate outshot the Mountain Hawks 7-6 in the opening 45 minutes and took that 1-0 lead into halftime.

Just three minutes into the second stanza, a foul was called on Colgate inside the penalty box, setting up O’Reilly’s a penalty kick, which he deposited in the back of the net, to tie the match at one. O’Reilly then scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 62:16 mark, booting a rebound past Raider goalie Doug Litvack (Levittown, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran). Lehigh possessed the ball the remainder of the match, and continued to apply pressure offensively to come away with the league win.

The Mountain Hawks held a 20-10 advantage in shots, and had two corner kicks to Colgate’s one. Sales finished with eight saves for Lehigh, while Litvack stopped 11 Lehigh shots.

The Raiders will host Oneonta State in non-conference action on Nov. 1, on Van Doren Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Colgate closes out its conference slate on Nov. 5, at Holy Cross at 1 p.m.
