Scott’s rushing total equaled the ninth best single-game performance in school history, and is the best ever by a Colgate freshman. He is the first Colgate freshman to have three 100-yard rushing games in a season.

Colgate (5-2 overall, 2-0 Patriot League) wins its fourth straight game moving into a first place tie with Lafayette, while Holy Cross (5-3, PL 2-1) has a three-game winning streak stopped. The Raiders have won five straight in the series.

Senior wide receiver DeWayne Long (West Des Moines, IA) had two catches for 68 yards to become the 10th player in school history to grab more than 100 passes in a career.

Defensively, Colgate was strong again limiting the Crusaders to 292 yards of total offense – 270 passing and 22 rushing. Leading the way was senior linebacker Jared Nepa (Carbondale, PA), who had a game-high eight tackles, and a 62-yard interception return for a touchdown. Geoff Bean (Oneonta, NY) had two quarterback sacks, while Jeff Galletly (Franklin Lakes, NJ) and Brent Smith (Whitehall, Mich.) had one apiece.

Holy Cross opened the scoring on its first offensive play of the game after recovering a Colgate fumble. Quarterback John O’Neil connected with Bob Turkovich on a 48-yard pass play down the middle for the touchdown. Mike DeSantis added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

The Raiders came right on their next possession to tie the contest 7-7. Burke capped a 50-yard drive when he caught a 21-yard pass from Saraceno in the corner of the end zone with 9:45 left in the quarter. Freshman Jacob Stein (St. Petersburg, Fla.) added the extra point.

In the second quarter, Colgate went ahead 14-7 with 12:05 remaining when Scott scored on a one-yard run to cap a 77-yard drive. Stein had the extra point.

With 57 seconds left in the first half, Holy Cross managed to tie the game on a 19-yard pass play from O’Neil to Sean Gruber. DeSantis’ extra point dead locked the halftime score, 14-14.

After a scoreless third quarter, Stein made a pair of field goals to give the Raiders a 20-14 lead with 6:24 left. He hit his first collegiate attempt from 26 yards and later added a 25-yarder.

Then with Holy Cross driving for the potential go-ahead touchdown, Nepa intercepted O’Neil at the Colgate 38-yard line, and raced down the right sideline for the game-clinching TD with 4:51 remaining. It was Nepa’s fourth interception of the season, and the 10th of his career.
