HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/15/05) - Colgate junior midfielder Devin Deane (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) scored the game-winning goal, his third of the season, at 12:44 to win the battle between Navy and Colgate on Saturday evening at Van Doren Field.
Through most of the contest a great deal of heavy rain came down and mixed in with the wind for not so pleasant weather conditions.
Freshman Jimmy Stephens (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) made a pass just outside the 18 yard mark to Deane. Deane settled the ball and sent a shot that was buried into the far corner of the net at 12:44 for the eventual game-winning goal.
Doug Litvack (Levittown, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) made five stops for Colgate to improve to 6-4-2. Navy’s Thomas Jenkins turned away one shot in his first loss of the season, 3-1-1.
Colgate improves its record to 7-4-2 and 3-1 in the Patriot League, while Navy falls to 7-5-1 and 2-2 in the conference. The all-time series between the squads is now even at 8-8-1.
The Raiders will play their next three on the road, with their first at regional rival Syracuse on Tuesday, October 18 with a 7 p.m., start time.
