Boxscore

HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/1/05) - Senior defender Carolyn Warhaftig (Wyckhoff, N.J./Ramapo) scored both of Colgate’s (6-3-1, 1-0) goals to propel the Raiders to a 2-0 shutout over Bucknell (6-5, 0-1) to open up the Patriot League schedule.

Junior Jackie Burch (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) sent a long pass up the center of the field to Warhaftig who was racing onto the ball. She lofted a shot that went by Katie Dry in net and hit the underside of the crossbar.  It popped out to the arms of Dry who believed she was making a save, but the referee signaled a goal just 9:31 into the game. It was Warhaftig’s first tally of the 2005 campaign and 14th of her career.

With just over 22 minutes to play, Warhaftig headed the ball past the goal line with an assist from Margot Campbell (Kettering, Ohio/Alter) after she took a foot on a Marissa Akason (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) corner kick on the near side of the field.

The Raiders held off Bucknell for the remainder of the game with its’ solid defense backed by Luisa Miller (Washington, D.C./National Cathedral) who made some stunning saves. Miller made five stops for the Raiders in her third shutout of the season.  A team save was credited to Heather McSherry (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) when she knocked away a shot when Miller was just out of position. Bucknell’s Dry made three saves for the Bison.

Bucknell held the slight advantage in shots, 12-11, while corner kicks were even at six apiece.

The Raiders will travel to Cornell on Tuesday, October 4 for a 7 p.m., contest at Berman Field.
