Boxscore

EASTON, PA. (10/1/05) - Lafayette sophomore forward Mark Price and a Colgate own goal was enough for the Leopards to surpass the Raiders, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Metzgar Fields.

The opening goal for either team came off an own goal as the ball rebounded off the leg of a Colgate player and past Colgate’s keeper Doug Litvack (Levittown, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) at the 19:22 mark. Lafayette junior forward Thomas Harju dribbled down the sideline and took a hard shot from the left corner of the box, as the ball bounced off the Colgate player to put the Leopards ahead 1-0.

Ten minutes later, Colgate would tie the game on an unassisted score from Charlie Lambropoulos (Lincolnwood, Ill./Niles West) on a direct kick. For the remainder of the contest, the Lafayette defense shut down Colgate, holding the Raiders to zero second-half shots.

As the teams came out of the intermission with the score knotted, 1-1, Lafayette struggled to get their offense going until late. In the 84th minute, Harju broke out on a long run and crossed to Price, who headed in his first game-winner and second goal on the season.

Lafayette keeper Mike Tortora recorded two saves on the day, and Colgate's Litvack totaled three. The Leopards outshot the Raiders 7-3, while also holding the advantage on corner kicks, 3-1.

With the win, the Leopards improved to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in Patriot League action. Colgate evened is record at 4-4-2 on the season and 1-1 in league play.

The Colgate men’s soccer team will return to Van Doren Field on Saturday, October 8 when they take on Bucknell at 7 p.m. It will also be the reunion of the Colgate 1960 undefeated soccer team.
