No. 9/10 Men's Hockey Continues Homestand Against St. Lawrence and Clarkson

Both of this weekend's games will be broadcast live on Time Warner Sports.

HAMILTON, N.Y.--The No. 9/10 Colgate University men's ice hockey team continues its five-game homestand this weekend with a pair of ECAC Hockey League games against St. Lawrence University and Clarkson University. Both games will be broadcast live by Time Warner Sports at 7:05 p.m.

Colgate (18-6, 10-2 ECACHL) stands in first place in the ECACHL, just one point ahead of second place Cornell. The Raiders are coming off a weekend split against the University of Vermont (ranked 14th at the time) and Dartmouth College. Senior defenseman Joey Mormina scored two goals in Colgate's 4-1 win over Vermont Friday night to extend its winning streak to a season-high six games. Dartmouth ended that streak the following night with a 6-3 victory in a weather delayed game.

The Saints (13-10-1, 7-5-0 ECACHL) is coming off a weekend split with Rensselaer and Union at home. The 3-2 loss to Rensselaer Friday night ended the St. Lawrence's five-game winning streak. The Saints rebounded with a 7-3 win over Union Saturday night.

St. Lawrence started off the season with big wins over some of the top teams in the country. The Saints skated to a 1-1 draw with St. Cloud in the season opener before losing 4-2 to New Hampshire in the championship game of the Ice Breaker in Durham, N.H. They advanced to the championship by virtue of winning the shootout 1-0. The following week, the Saints knocked off Michigan State 3-1 but lost to Michigan the following day by a 5-2 score. They split a weekend series with Maine the next weekend and then swept Miami (who was ranked at the time) the weekend after that.

Junior T.J. Trevelyan leads the team in scoring with 31 points on 16 goals and 15 assists. He also leads the team in power play goals with six and has one shorthanded goal and one game-winning goal to his credit as well. Classmate John Zeiler is the team’s top assist man with 16 helpers.

Senior goaltender Mike McKenna has appeared in 21 games with a 2.94 goals against average and a .904 save percentage to go along with an 11-9-1 record.

The Saints power play is clicking at 16.8 percent overall and is 21.7 percent in league play. St. Lawrence’s penalty kill is at 83.6 percent overall and 79.5 percent in the ECACHL.

The Series: St. Lawrence leads the overall series between the two teams by a 57-53-3 margin but Colgate holds the advantage at home 30-22-2.

The Golden Knights (7-15-2, 3-8-1 ECACHL) are also coming off a weekend split with Rensselaer and Union. Junior goaltender Dustin Traylen stopped 36 shots in the 2-0 shutout over the Dutchmen Friday night, but the Golden Knights lost to the Engineers the following night by a 4-3 score.

Senior forward Jay Latulippe leads the team in scoring with 23 points on 10 goals and 13 assists. He also has eight power play goals to his credit.

Traylen, sophomore Kyle McNulty and freshman David Leggio have split time in goal this season with Traylen appearing in 16 of 24 games. He is 3-9-1 on the season with a 2.84 goals against average and a .904 save percentage. McNulty is 2-5-1 on the year with a 2.87 goals against average and a .899 save percentage while Leggio is 2-1 with a 4.30 goals against average and a .877 save percentage.

Clarkson’s power play is clicking at 16 percent and its penalty kill is at 81.5 percent. In league play, the power play is at 13.3 percent and the penalty kill is at 81.6 percent.

The Series: Clarkson leads the overall series between the two schools by a 77-38-8 margin and also leads the series at Starr Rink 23-20-3. The Golden Knights have recorded three straight shutouts in Hamilton, dating back to the 2001-02 season.
