HAMILTON, N.Y.--Senior defenseman Justin Spencer (Tweed, Ont.) of the Colgate University men's ice hockey team has been named College Sports Television's Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of December 12th.
Each week, CSTV recognizes the unique combination of athletic and academic accomplishments by honoring a student-athlete of the week.
Majoring in physics and math, Spencer carries a 3.5 grade point average and is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma national honor society, the Sigma Pi Sigma physics national honor society and has co-authored papers that were published in the American Journal of Physics. He is also an alumni memorial scholar.
On the ice, Spencer has appeared in all but one game for the 12-4 Raiders this season and is part of a defense that has allowed just over two goals a game. Colgate is ranked fifth in the country in scoring defense.
Spencer and the Raiders host the University of Ottawa in an exhibition game on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Starr Rink.
