Men's Basketball Defeats In-State Rival Cornell, 70-56

The Raiders win their fourth straight against the Big Red.

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Andrew Zidar tallied 16 points to lead Colgate to a 70-56 win over in-state rival Cornell Tuesday night at Cotterell Court in a non-conference.

 

Colgate (1-2) wins its fourth straight game in the series against Cornell (0-3), and takes its 10 win in the last 12 outings against the Big Red.

 

Other players in double figures for Colgate were Jon Foss with a career-high 14 and Alvin Reed with 11. Keith Williams added seven points and a game-high nine rebounds off the bench for the Raiders.

 

Cornell was led by Lenny Collins with 15 points, while Cody Toppert added 11 and Ryan Rourke 10.

 

Cornell held a 13-12 lead in the first half before the Raiders scored eight straight points to take a 20-13 lead with 6:18 remaining. Freshman Kyle Roemer started Colgate’s run with four straight points, before Foss added a pair of buckets. Colgate increased its advantage to nine points before settling for a 27-23 halftime lead.

 

In the second half, Cornell rallied to tie the game 33-33, before Colgate responded with an 11-2 run to take control of the game. Foss had six points and Zidar four in the deciding run for the Raiders.

 

Colgate out-rebounded the Big Red, 38-32.
