Colgate Names Captains For 2003 Season

Tem Lukabu, Sean McCune and John Frieser to lead Raiders.

HAMILTON, N.Y. Colgate University head football coach Dick Biddle has named linebacker Tem Lukabu (Avenel, NJ), strong safety Sean McCune (Hookstown, PA) and tight end John Frieser (Endwell, NY) tri-captains for the 2003 season.

Colgate is the defending Patriot League co-champion, and will open its season on Sept. 6 at Georgetown University.

Lukabu, who was the co-Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, led the Raiders in tackling last season with 112 including a team-high 51 solo efforts.  The first team all-Patriot League performer was a key member of the defensive unit that finished ninth in the nation against the rush, giving up only 99.25 yards per game.

McCune, a three-year letterwinner, has 25 games of starting experience for the Raiders.  Last fall, he was Colgates third leading tackler with 73 including one interception and two fumble recoveries.  McCune joins his older brother Tom 03 as the first brother combination to serve as Colgate football captains.

Frieser, a first team all-Patriot League selection the last two seasons, has caught 39 passes for 607 yards and seven touchdowns during his career.  An outstanding student in the classroom, he has been named to the Verizon District I All-Academic team the last two seasons.
