Field Hockey Loses to American, 4-0

Colgate freshman goalkeeper Jacque DeMarco (Hudson, Ohio) finished with 12 saves.

HAMILTON, N.Y.--The American University field hockey team scored three second half goals en route to a 4-0 Patriot League win over Colgate Saturday morning at Tyler's Field.

Colgate (5-10, 2-4 PL) had a chance to get on the board 19 minutes into the game, but sophomore Sarah McCarthy's shot off of a penalty corner hit the left post.

The two teams battled through a scoreless 30 minutes before American (13-2, 5-0 PL) got on the board at 30:16 on a goal off of a penalty corner by Maureen Daniel. Heather Maranzano and Melissa Snyder assisted on the goal.

Camila Infante put the Eagles up 2-0 at 37:06 off of a penalty corner. Maranzano assisted on the goal.

American went up 3-0 at 58:22 when Heidi Hershberger's shot trickled by Colgate freshman goalkeeper Jacque DeMarco (Hudson, Ohio). Javiera Villagra closed out the scoring at 63:16 with a shot from just inside the circle. Daniel assisted on the goal.

American outshot the Raiders 21-14 and had the advantage on corners 15-10.

DeMarco finished with 12 saves while American's Laura Miller stopped eight shots.  

The Raiders travel to Ithaca, N.Y. for their final regular season game on Saturday, Nov. 1  against Cornell at 12 p.m.

NOTES: Seniors Sarah Howitt (Bronxville, N.Y.) and Kristen Merkle (Woodstown, N.J.) were honored before the game.
