Hamilton, N.Y. - Kate Barrett (Troy, N.Y.) and Carolyn Warhaftig (Wyckoff, N.J.) scored twice and Kelly Kuss (Warners, N.Y.) added three assists as the Colgate women's soccer team defeated the Holy Cross Crusaders 5-0, Saturday afternoon at Van Doren Field.
Barrett got the Raiders off to a fast start scoring just 1:52 into the contest. Luisa Miller (Washington, D.C.) sent a goal kick to Kuss who played it forward to Barrett for the breakaway tally. Miller registered a rare goalkeeper assist on the goal. Barrett added her second goal 13 minutes later on another long ball from Kuss.
Warhaftig's first goal came at 24:34 of the first half off a beautiful cross from freshman Kelly Niland (Syracuse, N.Y.). Warhaftig's second goal came 19 minutes into the second half off a looseball scramble in front.
Niland's first tally of the game just three minutes later set the final. Barrett and Kuss added assists on the final goal.
Colgate dominated play the entire game, pounding the Crusader net with 19 shots. The Raiders also held an overwhelming advantage in corners, 14-4. Miller and Alex Baker (Issaquah, Wash.) split the shutout.
With her five points, Barrett is now sixth on the all-time points list with 82. Her 31 goals place her sixth on the all-time list, and her 22 assists move her into fourth place.
The Raiders are now 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the Patriot League. Colgate next travels to Yale on Monday, October 13 for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
