Ottawa's Corel Centre To Host College Hockey Showcase

First annual event will feature Clarkson vs. Colgate

OTTAWA - The Corel Centre announced today the first annual College Hockey Showcase will take place at the Corel Centre on Saturday, December 14. The Clarkson University Golden Knights will take on the Colgate University Raiders in a non-conference exhibition game at 2 p.m.

Both teams, regular foes in the NCAAs Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), have significant Ottawa connections. City of Ottawa mayor Bob Chiarelli, a Golden Knight from 1960-63, and Ottawa Senator Todd White, a Hobey Baker Award finalist and member of the 1990 ECAC all-decade team, are both Clarkson alumni.

Colgate has four CJHL graduates on their roster along with head coach Don Vaughan, an Almonte native. Sophmore Dmitry Yashin, younger brother of former Ottawa Senator Alexei Yashin, is a former member of the Kanata Valley Lasers.

Other CJHL graduates on the Raiders roster include: Justin Spencer (Ottawa), Zac Tataryn (Cumberland), John Smyth (Ottawa), Ryan Smyth (Hawkesbury) and Rob Brown (Brockville).

Clarkson also has four members of their current team who played or coached in the Central Junior Hockey League (CJHL). Assistant coach Fred Barker is a former coach of Ottawa, Nepean, Smiths Falls and Brockville. Also on the Clarkson team are three players from the CJHL: Dustin Trayler (Nepean), Trevor Edwards (Kanata) and Jean Desrochers (Cornwall).

Tickets for the first annual College Hockey Showcase go on sale Saturday, October 19 at 10 a.m. at the Corel Centre box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, to charge by phone at 755-1111 or on the Internet (www.ticketmaster.ca).

Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $10 for students (with student ID) and seniors (60 and over), $6 for children (12 and under) and $22 for a family pack (two adults and two children). All prices include taxes and infrastructure surcharge, but exclude Ticketmaster convenience charges. Groups of 15 or more can get tickets for $6 by calling 599-0116.
