Former Alabama standout Katrice Ewanich joined head coach Andy Waeger’s staff as an assistant swimming and diving coach in October 2014.

Ewanich works primarily with the Raider divers while also assisting in the day-to-day operations of both programs.

“I could not be happier to have Katrice to our staff,” said Waeger. “She is a dynamic young woman who has some great in-state ties and competed in arguably the strongest NCAA swimming conference. It has been great to have her as a part of the Colgate Swimming and Diving family."

The Colgate divers made great strides during Ewanich’s first season in Hamilton. Senior Chloe Russack was a three-time Patriot League Diver-of-the-Week honoree, helping the women’s team rattle off six unanswered wins to start the season on its way to an 8-4 record. The Raider men, meanwhile, showed continual improvement during the regular season and posted an eighth place finish in the Patriot League Championships.

Both squads were ranked among the most improved programs in the country during the 2014-15 season. The men’s squad was ranked 10th and the women tabbed 18th in the annual poll conducted by collegeswimming.com.

A native of Cornwall, N.Y., Ewanich joined the Raider program from Ridgewood High School in New Port Richey, Fla., where she served as the head swimming and diving coach and instructional assistant.

Ewanich was also active in the youth swimming community while in Florida as she held the title of head swim coach with Tampa Bay Aquatics, an age group swimming organization that focused on helping each swimmer achieve efficiency through practicing drills and developing stroke technique.

"I am very excited to be a part of the Colgate community and to work with the Swimming and Diving program,” said Ewanich. “I appreciate Coach Waeger and the Athletic Administration for giving me the opportunity to coach at Colgate.  From the moment I stepped foot on campus I knew this was where I wanted to be."

Ewanich swam four seasons at Alabama, earning her way to the SEC Championship and scoring points in the event for the Crimson Tide in each of her four campaigns. She served as team captain during her senior season. She graduated from Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies in 2011.

Prior to her college career, Ewanich was a three-time U.S. Open competitor. A two-time New York State champion in the 50 and 100 freestyle, Ewanich was an eight-time High School All-American swimmer at Cornwall. She set 10 school and two sectional records during her prep career.

No stranger to the summer camp circuit, Ewanich recently served as Head Counselor & Assistant Director for the Longhorns Diving Camp, led by University of Texas Diving Head Coach and three-time USA Diving Olympic coach Matt Scoggin.
