Colgate Falls in Conference Match to Bucknell

The Raiders faced their third loss in Patriot League play this season

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Colgate fell to Bucknell 3–2, in Davis Gymnasium. Bucknell jumped out to an early 2–0 advantage. Colgate responded by taking sets three and four, but the Bison capitalized on several multi-point runs to take the fifth set, 15–10.

"Credit to Bucknell, they played with a chip on their shoulders from start to finish. It's a tough place to play and their environment beat us. We need to be better as we come closer to the playoffs."

Set 1 | Bucknell 25, Colgate 18
The match opened with Colgate's Milan Bayless delivering a kill and a service ace to secure an early 4-1 lead. As the set progressed, the Bison managed to close the gap, but a kill from Frances Torres helped the Raiders maintain a 10–9 edge. Bucknell earned eight quick points to Colgate's two pushing the score in its favor, 18–12.  A late push from the Raiders, highlighted by kills from Maddie Rudolph and Lal Akin, brought them within striking distance, but Bucknell ultimately took the first set, 25–18.

Set 2 | Bucknell 28, Colgate 26
Colgate showcased resilience in the second set, with a significant turning point occurring when Rudolph's service ace tied the score at 16–16. Bayless and Torres contributed crucial kills, helping Colgate keep pace with Bucknell, which had taken an early lead. The set featured multiple lead changes, with Colgate reaching a 24–23 advantage after a block by Bayless and Rudolph. Despite the Raiders' efforts — including a late kill by Carlie Rzeszotarski that tied the game at 26–26 — Bucknell ultimately edged out Colgate, 28–26.

Set 3 | Colgate 25, Bucknell 18
Colgate surged ahead in the third set, fueled by a key offensive burst led by Bayless, who recorded eight kills in the set, including a three-point run with assists from Ava Schabes and Rzeszotarski. The two teams traded points midway through the set until the Raiders capitalized on momentum from a Bayless kill to close out the frame, 25–18. 

Set 4 | Colgate 25, Bucknell 16
The Raiders opened the fourth set strong, scoring the first two points on kills by Bayless and Torres. The momentum continued as Rzeszotarski added two more kills, extending Colgate's lead to 4–1. Bayless and Rzeszotarski were pivotal in keeping Colgate ahead, with Bayless contributing three total kills in the frame. Service errors by the Bison further aided Colgate, including a crucial miscue that gave Colgate a 23–14 lead. Torres and Rudolph sealed the set with a block, securing a 25–16 victory.

Set 5 | Bucknell 15, Colgate 10
Colgate faced a challenging start in the final set as Bucknell quickly built a 7-1 lead through a combination of kills and Colgate attack errors. The Raiders began to recover with Rzeszotarski contributing several kills supported by assists from Deren Cukur and Ava Schabes, narrowing the deficit to 12–6. Though Colgate managed a late push, Bucknell ultimately secured the set 15–10. 

GAME NOTES
  • Bayless led the team with 21 kills and added six blocks, accumulating a total of 24 points. 
  • Rudolph contributed at the net with 10 total blocks and recorded three service aces. 
  • Rzeszotarski posted 13 kills and two blocks. 
  • Schabes facilitated the attack with 20 assists and tallied 13 digs.

Colgate holds a 16–9 overall record and an 11–3 mark in Patriot League play, sitting in second in the standings as the Raiders prepare to face Lafayette at 5 p.m. tomorrow.
