Raiders Cruise to Home Opener Victory

Three Raiders ended the game with double-digit points

HAMILTON — The Colgate Raiders defeated the Ithaca Bombers, outscoring them 26–11 in the third quarter to win 66–45 in their home opener.

It was a total team effort, as the Raiders scored 66 points, with 27 coming from the bench. Sophomore Tatiana Matthews undoubtedly led the offense, generating a career-high 16 points — eight of which came in the third quarter — and dishing out three assists.

Ella Meabon recorded a career-best 15-point showing, tallying seven points in the third quarter, in addition to her six assists and four rebounds. Grace Klag matched a career-high 13 points and was two rebounds short of her first double-double, finishing with eight.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Meabon tallied six quick points on a layup, free throws, and jumper to get the Raiders out front, 6–3. The Bombers had a run themselves, closing the quarter with a one-point lead, 12–11.

First-year Kennedy Parrot made an immediate impact for the Raiders entering the second quarter. She collected two rebounds and went 4-for-4 on foul shots. Matthews started to heat up in the quarter, securing four points and an energy-boosting assist to Ella Mahaffey, who nailed a three-pointer going into the half to give Colgate a nine-point advantage, 26–17.

The Raiders found their stride as they went on a seven-point run late in the third. Stemming from Meabon's made layup, Matthews and Lara Cook added to Colgate's lead, pushing them to a 45–24 advantage. In less than a minute, Parrot sealed Colgate's largest lead of the night by 24 points, hitting a three-pointer and jumper to push the score to 52–28.

Ithaca made a run late in the fourth, shooting 3-for-5 beyond the arc and 6-for-9 from the floor, but Klag from Colgate's bench owned the final quarter. She boasted 10 points going 4-for-4 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line to remain flawless in her fourth quarter shooting percentage. The 6'2" senior collected four rebounds to solidify a 66–45 win for Colgate.

Parrot and Karena Eberts made their debut as first-years for the Raiders.
