HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/11/2010)   –
Sam Fregenti's two-out double to right in the bottom of the sixth inning provided Holy Cross with the game winning run in a 10-9 victory over Colgate in the second game of a Patriot League softball doubleheader, Sunday afternoon at Eaton Street Field.  The Crusaders also won the opener 8-6.

Leading 5-4 heading into the bottom of the fourth, Holy Cross appeared to have everything under control after Erin Fleming belted a grand slam to right field to give the Crusaders their third homer of the game and  a five-run advantage.  However, the Raiders answered back rather quickly scoring five of their own in the top of the fifth.  Colgate loaded the bases and with one out before Natalie Siedhof (Canton, Pa.) sent a two-run single to center.  Nicole Siedhof (Canton, Pa.) followed with a three-run homer, her fourth of the season, to even the game at 9-9.

Already down 3-0 after two innings, Colgate got on the board in the third with an unearned run thanks in part to a Crusader error.  After Holy Cross extended its lead to 5-1 with a two-run bottom of the third, the Raiders plated three in the fourth.  With runners on second and third, Jennifer Ortega (Aberdeen, N.J.) sent a fly ball to centerfield.  After the outfielder made the catch, she fell to the ground allowing both runners to cross home plate on the sacrifice fly.  Emmie Dolfi (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) singled to drive in the other run.  Nicole Siedhof was the lone multi-hit producer in Coglate's seven-hit attack.

Courtney O'Connell (Palm Harbor, Fla.) suffered the loss in relief.  The freshman surrendered five runs in her four innings of work.

In the opener, Colgate grabbed a four-run lead in the first two innings.  Stephanie Hartquist (Homer, N.Y.), who hit safely in both games to extend her hitting streak to 17, drove in the first run with a double to center.  Ortega later plated the other run with a sacrifice fly.

The Raiders added a pair in the second thanks to a two-run homer by Melissa Babb-Renta (Glenview, Ill.), her second of the season.  After the Crusaders cut the deficit to 4-3, Colgate plated one run in the fifth inning on a single to left center by Natalie Siedhof.  Holy Cross tied the game in the fifth with two runs before taking the lead for good with a three-run sixth.  Erin Fleming and Fregenti hit back to back homers to plate all three runs.

Colgate had something brewing in its final at bat.  Alana Dyson (Grovetown, Ga.) led off with a double and was moved to third on a single by Amanda Zranchev (Budd Lake, N.J.).  Hartquist pulled Colgate within two runs with a run-scoring single.  However, Caitlin Belanger settled down and polished off the game by setting down the next three batters.

The top three hitters in Colgate's lineup, Dyson, Zranchev and Hartquist, each finished with two-hit games, as did Babb-Renta.

Michelle Hollebeke (North Reading, Mass.) suffered the loss for Colgate and fell to 10-6 overall.  The sophomore allowed 12 hits and six earned runs in six innings of work.

Colgate, 20-10 overall, returns to action Wednesday afternoon at Siena.  Game time is set for a 3 p.m. start.
