Kyle Roemer (Martinez, CA) scored 24 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the undefeated Colgate men’s basketball team (3-0) to a 83-77 win over Texas State University (2-1) in the opening round of the 100 Club Classic at the KSU Convocation Center Friday night.
The Raiders will play Kennesaw State in the championship game on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Owls defeated Jacksonville State 80-74 in their opening round game.
Roemer, who is Colgate’s leading scorer with 18.3 points per game, got scoring help from senior forward
Tim Pounds (Dudley, NC) with a career-high 19 points and senior forward
Kendall Chones (Cleveland, OH), who tallied 11 points and grabbed five rebounds.
Colgate out-rebounded the Bobcats 47-28 with
Alex Woodhouse (Alexandria, VA) leading the way with nine boards and seven points. Roemer and
Peter Minchella (West Lafayette, IN) grabbed six boards apiece.
Roemer finished 5-of-10 from behind the arc to move into seventh place with 117 career 3-pointers made.
The Raiders shot 53 percent from the field (28-52), while holding TSU to 33 percent. The Bobcats came into the game averaging 100 points per outing.
