WORCESTER, Mass. (04/01/2006)—Colgate University freshman midfielder Brandon Corp (Chittenango, N.Y.) recorded his first career hat trick to lead the Raiders to an 11-6 win over Holy Cross in Patriot League men’s lacrosse action on Hart Field. The Raiders are now 7-2 overall and 2-1 in league play, while Holy Cross is 0-8 and 0-3 in conference action.

The Raiders jumped out to a 4-1 lead by halftime and scored seven unanswered through the third and fourth quarters to cruise to the 11-6 victory over the Crusaders. Colgate improves to 17-0 all-time against Holy Cross.

Corp started the scoring for Colgate at the 9:34 mark of the first quarter with his 10th goal of the year. Senior Reid Diamond (Boston, Mass.) added another score six minutes later to send the Raiders into the first intermission up 2-0.

Corp fired home his second goal of the game just 1:10 into the second frame to make it 3-0 Colgate, but Holy Cross’s Billy Klotz put the Crusaders on the board two minutes later off an assist from John O’Sullivan to make it a two-goal game.

Colgate senior Brian Robinson (Denver, Colo.) registered his team-leading 15th score with 6:03 left in the second quarter to give the Raiders a 4-1 halftime advantage.

The Crusaders opened the second half scoring with a tally from O’Sullivan, but it was all Raiders after that as Colgate racked up the next seven goals, including five in the final 6:22 of the third quarter to go up 11-2.

Sophomores Trevor Marticke (Hudson, Ohio) and Matt Lalli (Princeton Junction, N.J.) sparked the Colgate run with two goals apiece. Both second-year players finished with two goals on the afternoon. Junior Chris Eck (Fairfield, Conn.) capped the streak with his first goal of the year just eight seconds after Lalli’s second goal of the game.

The Crusaders closed out the game with four unanswered, but could not climb back into the contest after falling behind 11-2.

Eck also was outstanding at the faceoff circle winning 12-of-17 restarts for the Raiders. Junior defenseman Colin Hulme (Framingham, Mass.) picked up a game-high five groundballs for Colgate.

Senior goaltender Andrew Jarolimek (Silverthorne, Colo.) had a strong outing between the pipes, making nine saves in 51 minutes of action. Freshman Brian Cain (Rocky Point, N.Y.) added two stops in the final 8:10 of the contest.

O’Sullivan led all scorers in the game with three points on two goals and an assist. Klotz also added two tallies for the Crusaders.

Holy Cross’s Matt Fallon saw the majority of the time in goal, making five saves, while Jimmy Harrison had three stops in 9:50 of action.

The Crusaders outshot the Raiders 32-25 and picked up 22 groundballs to Colgate’s 21. The Raiders clear defense was outstanding once again, allowing Holy Cross to clear just 8-of-21 times.

Colgate continues Patriot League play on April 8, hosting Lehigh University in a key league matchup. Lehigh (4-5, 2-2 PL) recently upended No. 19 Bucknell 7-5. Faceoff is set for 3 p.m. on April 8 at Tyler’s Field.
