 Bill Fisher won four varsity letters in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. Upon graduation, he held six Colgate school records - cross country course (26:11), the indoor two mile (9:02.4), the outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:18.4), three mile (14:07), six mile (29:36) and marathon (2:30.16). He placed 9th in the 1976 IC4A Cross Country Championship and was runner-up in the New York State Track & Field Association Cross Country Championship in 1976 and 1977. He served as co-captain in his sophomore and senior seasons and captain as a junior. During his track career, Fisher won 56 individual varsity races and was a member of three winning relay teams. He qualified three times for the prestigious IC4A Championships competing twice indoor in the two mile and once outdoor in the 10,000 meter final. In 1978 he finished seventh in the IC4A two-mile race. He won the NYSCT&FA three-mile indoor title in 1978 and 10,000-meter race at the IC4A Championship and was state runner-up in the mile in 1978. Overall, Fisher was a 13-time individual medalist (first through fifth place) at the NYSCT&FA Championships. After graduation, he competed in professional road racing and finished 19th overall in the 1982 Boston Marathon as well as qualifying for the 1983 National Track & Field Championships in the 10,000 meters.
