Mark van Eeghen set the Colgate rushing record for three years of competition with 2,591 yards. He is one of the very few Colgate football players who rushed for more than 1,000 yards in a single season, and he set a single season rushing record in 1973 with 1,089 yards. He played in the 1973 East-West game and after graduation he was a member of the Oakland Raiders. He was the only Oakland player to rush for more than 1,000 yards in three consecutive years (1976-78). Van Eeghan led the AFC in rushing during 1977 (1,273 yards) and was second in the NFL. He was Oakland’s leading rusher during its World Champion season of 1976 and was the team’s all-time leading rusher.
