Bruen coached the Raiders to two Patriot League championships and appearances in the 1995 and 1996 NCAA tournaments. Colgate reached double-figures in wins in his last six full seasons, including victory totals of 18, 17, 17 and 15 over a four-year stretch in the mid-1990s. His Patriot League regular season record from the 1992-93 to 1996-97 seasons was 46-20, during which time the Raiders finished first on three occasions and third twice. Bruen was a two-time Patriot League Coach of the Year and led the Raiders until his death in December 1997 from pancreatic cancer.
