David Perry was a three-year letterwinner in varsity track competing in 1954, 1955 and 1956. He served as captain of both the indoor and outdoor teams in his senior year. During the 1955 indoor season, he anchored three winning mile relays in major races at Madison Square Garden - the Millrose Games, New York Athletic Club Meet, and the Knights of Columbus Meet. That spring, Perry was on the sprint medley relay team that placed third at the Penn Relays and had a second place in the 440-yard race at the IC4A Championships. In his senior season, he contributed to the fastest collegiate mile relay (first leg) of the season during an indoor meet at Madison Square Garden. During the outdoor season, Perry placed fourth in the 440 at the IC4A Championships and was a semifinalist in the 400-yard and quarterfinalist in the 200-yard races at the NCAA Championships in California. After graduation, while a member of the New York Athletic Club, Perry led the sprint medley relay team to a second place finish at the 1957 National AAU Indoor Championships at Madison Square Garden. Then in 1965, he was a member of the distance medley relay team that won the National AAU Outdoor championship.
