Dan Fortmann won national acclaim as a football player at Colgate and later for the professional Chicago Bears. He played three years for the Red Raiders and was an all-East guard in 1935. Fortmann was called by Andy Kerr “the best player I ever coached.” Colgate was 20-5-1 during his collegiate career. He spent eight years as guard with the Bears, and in the last six years made the first team All-Pro squad. Fortmann was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1965 and the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 1978.
